<p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic,sans-serif;">L'uovo elettrico è un globo di vetro, a forma ovoidale, nel quale si può rarefare l'aria. Infatti sotto la base c'è un foro che mette in comunicazione l'uovo con la macchina pneumatica: il rubinetto in basso permette di regolarne il collegamento. Due aste, terminanti con due elettrodi a sfera, penetrano nel globo lungo l'asse verticale; quella superiore scorre a sfregamento in una scatola di cuoio così che si può avvicinare a quella inferiore. Le due aste vengono collegate con i poli di una macchina elettrostatica (il rubinetto funziona anche da serrafilo). Il globo si riempie di luce violacea il cui colore e forma muteranno man mano che verrà nuovamente introdotta l'aria fino a che si vedrà una lunga scintilla come quella che si vede fra le sferette di uno spinterometro a pressione ordinaria.</span></p>
